Dental Crowns Near You
A dental crown or cap is a prosthetic cap that is placed over a tooth to restore the shape, strength, and appearance of the tooth. Dental crowns may be necessary when a filling or other restoration is not sufficient in protecting the tooth. They are often created and applied to a tooth after a root canal procedure, or as part of a dental bridge restoration.
Why Are Dental Crowns Necessary?
Although fillings are the most common type of restoration, they sometimes are not sufficient. In these cases, your dentist may suggest a dental crown if a tooth has significant damage. The most typical reasons for crowns are broken or fractured teeth, extensive decay, and root canals.
The Dental Crown Process
During your first dental crown appointment, a mold will be made of your tooth. You will also receive a temporary crown until your permanent one is created. At your second visit, the temporary crown is removed and the permanent one will be placed on the tooth. Dental crowns can last many years with great care and regular dental exams.
